A little 6-year-old Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai whose parents died in a car accident, so she lives at the orphanage with her 5 roommates: Yuna Kamihara, Wang Ai Ling, Dorie Goodwyn, Reanne Griffith and Mirabelle Haywood whose parents died in a typhoon accident too. Lilo, Ai, Dorie, Reanne and Mirabelle are all orphans. Lilo is sending away from her abused formerly sister, Nani by Cobra Bubbles. Yuna Kamihara has a father, a grandmother, and an older cousin named Tigerlily. Ai has an older sister, Jiejie. Yuna’s dad is mostly away and Yuna’s mom is presumed dead. Both of Ai and Jiejie's parents are dead.

In Losing Lilo, Lilo Pelekai is being away from her former sister, Nani to the orphanage by Cobra Bubbles after her parents were killed in a car accident. Lilo is just arrived at the orphanage and befriends three girls, Dorie Goodwyn, Reanne Griffith and Mirabelle Haywood are around Lilo’s age.

Lilo Pelekai lives in the orphanage with her 3 roommates: Dorie Goodwyn, Reanne Griffith and Mirabelle Haywood.

Dorie’s parents, Reanne’s parents and Mirabelle’s parents are all killed in a typhoon accident like Lilo’s parents died. Dorie’s former younger sister, Caitlyn lives a far away from her to a different town.

Lilo’s former older sister, Nani is being arrested by the cops and taken to the Kauai Prison and had in custody of Lilo by Cobra Bubbles.

Not even fifteen minutes into the movie, Lilo’s first scenes have her being rejected by the other girls (because she beat up Mertle). After hula class, she tries to make up with them and shows them her "doll", Scrump, only for them to disappear before she's even finished talking. The somber music sets in as she throws Scrump on the ground and walks away, only to come back and embrace it sadly before heading for home.

It is made worse when Lilo ends up barricading herself inside the house, and just lies down listening to music. When Nani returns home, she tells her former sister to "leave me alone to die and I hate you". The loss of her parents, combined with Mertle's cruelty, drove Lilo to suicide, she's just six years old and a crybaby of the group.

The two get into a heated argument, with Nani believing Lilo's left at hula school without waiting for her. When Lilo bits Nani in her arm and smacks her in her face. The argument reaches its peak when Nani smacks Lilo in her face too, causing her to cry to tell Nani that she hates her, not as sisters, betrayed her, moving out from her and ran away from home.

A scary thought: What if Lilo believing Pudge was in control of the weather was a more recent development? What if Pudge was originally nothing more than a de facto pet she'd been feeding sandwiches until then? What if the day her parents died were the one day she forgot or was too busy to feed Pudge? This could mean that she sees her parents' death as her own fault for forgetting to feed Pudge. Then we come to understand why she reacted quite violently when Mertle called her crazy. She took it pretty personally. What's worse is that it's only later in the movie that we learn how Lilo's parents died.

After Cobra Bubbles tells Nani he really has no other choice but to take Lilo away for her own good.

David: You know, I really believe they did not have a chance anymore. Then you came along and you’re not anymore.

Lilo and Nani are separated from each other.

It is a sad morning, the social services are supposed to come to take Lilo away from her, David calls Nani on the phone tells her not to get a new job anymore and he breaks up with her. When Cobra arrives to collect Lilo and take her away in the custody from Nani.

Nani is heartbroken because Lilo has left to the orphanage and the cops arrested her to prison. Since after Lilo left, Nani decided that she is not going to be a good surfer anymore because she is scared of the ocean and sells her surfboards, surfing posters, medals and trophies!

Lilo Pelekai from Phineas and Ferb. She says things like "My enemies: Mertle Edmonds, Elena, Teresa and Yuki need to be punished" in a monotone while placing spoons decorated as her formerly Hula Halau-mates from a previous scene in a pickle jar and watching them, all while sitting next to a book titled "Practical Voodoo". She gets better, this being a cartoon. Completely justified, considering that the movie takes place shortly after her parents are killed in a car crash and this is her way of coping with the loss and lives in the orphanage with her 5 roommates: Yuna Kamihara, Wang Ai Ling, Dorie Goodwyn, Reanne Griffith and Mirabelle Haywood instead of to live with Nani, her former sister.

Lilo's father played the ukulele and was the one who coined the phrase, "ʻOhana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten."
