Johnson was born in Hayward, California to Melvin Johnson and Laura Hagop. Her father is of Afro-Canadian/Black Nova Scotian, Cree First Nations, Dutch, English, French-Canadian, Irish, Northern Irish (Scotch-Irish), Samoan, Scottish and Welsh descent and Her mother is of Armenian, Danish, German and Italian descent.
