Strong was born in Rockaway, Queens, New York City to Walter Bistrong and Susan Bistrong. His father is of English, Irish and Polish descent and His mother is of Czech, English, French Canadian, German, Northern Irish, Scottish and Welsh descent. He was raised Christian Science.

He met Tara Strong in 1999 and they wed in 2000. They had 2 sons, Sammy Strong and Aden Strong who were actors and voice actors.
